Super Bright Cat Closeup Success

Today’s selfie shots are the result of a quick surprise photo shoot while Toulouse was snoozing on our bedroom window bed which is quite high off the ground. It was one of those grab the camera and let’s see what happens. Let me show you!

The bed is accessed via our Monkee Tree steps and Toulouse leaps up to one of the steps to reach the sun puddle! You can see photos of the Tree at the link.

The steps are very wide and, in the past, angel tortie Sienna used to leap from them on to the end of the nearby bed! From the step to the bed is just over a metre and a half (nearly four feet!) and she was always super confident.

DERP!

As you can see the brightness behind Toulouse is very white and over exposed. I was still curious to see if, in spite of the light, I could still take a fun photo and how much detail I would get. Exploring settings right and wrongs with your camera is a lot of fun.

In the first capture (top) I have managed to get close enough to keep the light out (mostly) and, with a little sharpening, I managed a fearless tabby pose. The second photo was an accidental but very cute ‘derp’ and a bit more light means Toulouse loses some definition but gains in drama!

Someone felt his fur needed smoothing so I nearly got a more blurry shot as someone got himself super clean. You can even see a little glimpse of tooth behind the fur!

Fun photos even though the light was super bright! Never be afraid to take odd angles, quirky shots and sun ups and downs.

  1. I love close ups of animals, they’re adorable and sometimes even comical. My favourite picture of my cat Mini was a close up that I treasure to this day.

  2. I absolutely LOVE close-up photos. Some of my favorite photos of Henry are super close. They have such a different feeling. They always make me smile. Thanks for this one, Marjorie! I need to take more close-up photos of Henry.

  3. These photos are so utterly gorgeous – especially the second one, with Toulouse’s sweet little tongue peeping out!

  4. Thank you for taking us through the stages of those images.
The first has to be the one, but the second has heaps of special charm, too.
