Thomas A Sudden Departure

We lost Thomas our tuxedo to a blood clot. One moment he was there crying in pain, within literally moments I had left the workshop I was attending online and he was in the carrier, in the car, and being rushed to the vet. I don’t know who was more frightened, him or us.

Then he was gone.

Head and shoulders shot of Thomas gentle and kind tuxedo. He is looking over your shoulder to the left.

Thomas arrived in 2019 from a person who, it turned out, wasn’t his family at all! So we adopted the tuxedo who turned out to be a cat of gentle mischief, sweet temperament and who loved his bowl of breakfast milk (after he watched Miranda drink first).

Tuxedo cat posed on a wide wooden railing in the sunshine. He sits proudly and confidently facing the camera.

These are the last photographs I took of him on 7th of September 2025. It was a bright and cool Sunday and we did some gardening while it was quiet. He always followed me around to the furthest part of the garden and I had to politely request him to come out so I could close the gate. [I may still need to do that with Toulouse who will carry on the ‘where is he before I close the gate?’ tradition.]

Thomas was included in the #TributeRide on September 30th 2025.

I have so many memories of Thomas. He leaves a huge, profound and empty space in our lives that was filled with gentle joy, mischief and fun. Thomas let me pick him up, and cuddle him and say ‘I love you Thomas’ snuggling my nose in his fur more often than I can count. He was a kind and loving cat and my heart is numb.

Here are the four images I am having made into photo tiles by Snapfish here in New Zealand.

Fly free, Thomas. You will be re-united one day with your earthly family. Till then, fly free in the endless fields beyond the Rainbow Bridge, safe in the Loving Paw of the Great Cat in the Sky.
