Beginner Cat Photo Skills

Thomas The Tuxedo Formal Cat Adoption Portrait

Thomas now has an official Gotcher Day. It is 14th November and I present to you his formal cat adoption portrait to celebrate, plus a second close-up.

Thomas had a complicated story and arrival with the Dash Kitten Crew. He arrived and hovered around the house for several months and eventually became accepted and best buddies with Toulouse our Tabby. In fact, if you check my spectacular cat action shot you will see one of their tussles captured live.

I was able to capture a nice portriat and posted it on social media. The question I asked was ‘Is this your cat?’ Yes, said a lady further down our road, that is my Thomas. So, for the next couple of years Thomas spent more and more time at our house, and we though his mum was happy as she knew where he was.

However……

Where Did Thomas Come From?

A recent message from his mum made us realise that her Thomas was at her house and, simultaneously, there was a Thomas at our house. I asked her to send a smartphone photo which she did and she was able to confirm her Thomas was at home and a different Thomas napped in our cat bed!

  • So, we realised that our Thomas was not her Thomas at all. He is officially ours and no longer called (not our cat).

Happy Cat Model Tip

Thomas The Tuxedo Formal Adoption Portrait

As I have been practising with my DSLR a lot over the past year Thomas immediately became a willing model, happy to pose while I practiced my camera settings. As some of the cats are a challenge to capture having a model who loved to pose was a great opportunity.

If you meet a cat who, like Thomas, is happy to pose then I suggest that you get busy taking lots of photos. Your skills will improve in leaps and pounces because you will be able to check your viewfinder and repeat the shot as your model is still in the same place!
