Dr Seuss and the Love of Reading

I am sharing some of my favourite cat books on this special day for readers. Dr Seuss Day is also known as Read Across America Day.

Why does this day matter so much? Because sharing books encourages others to explore new stories and suggesting a new book to someone can launch a reader on a thrilling and absorbing journey..

Different Books for Different Folks

Everyone loves different stories and glories, chases and races, heroes and heroines, drama and delight.

From my first published story about survivor kitty Harvey in Purrseverance (Sierra’s Book & eBook) to classic cosy mysteries like the wonderful Joe Grey series, and our Cat Writers’ Author colleague Mollie Hunt’s Ghost Cat series, books entertain, thrill and delight us in so many ways.

Introduce A New Book to Someone

Many people are wary about new cat stories (after all everyone wants the cat to live….) so when you introduce a book to someone, make sure you prepare the path and let them know things like; ‘yes the cat lives’ or the cat is a ghost or this is a fun read for everyone.

A perfect example is Erin and Mark’s ‘Chumley and Hudson Investigates‘ rescue story. Fun, adventurous with a brave cat and a happy ending.

  • Readers like to know where they stand before they begin a new book so they can enjoy it.

Seuss-ian Humour

If you know young people (3-6 years) and want to share a colourful delight, check out Dinosaurs on Kitten Island.

This is a bright and positive book that shows dinosaurs visiting an island of kittens. Uh-oh!! Yep, they get into so much trouble, and the kittens seem to have the ‘upper paw’, until…… This is such a run ‘read along’ book it has the same silly joy as Dr. Seuss.

Across the USA and (I hope) the world, on March 2nd, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centres bring together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! The page I link to is from 2013 BUT is packed with genuine Dr Seuss material. [The page has lots of activities and printables.]

Taz’s Gotcher Day

Finally, Taz has officially been a member of the Dash Kitten Crew for a whole year! His insurance renews this month (helps us keep track!) and he has been family for a whole year already. He is the perfect meowdel and loves his dad.

  1. Dr. Seuss’s stories have such a magical way of making reading fun and inspiring a lifelong love of books! It’s wonderful to see how his legacy lives on through events like Read Across America and initiatives that get books into kids’ hands. His playful rhymes and imaginative worlds remind us all that reading can be an adventure — what a beautiful way to encourage literacy and creativity!

  2. A Very Happy Gotcha Day to Taz, and I guess to you, too. After all you got each other. And thanks for including Mrs H and my book in your selection. Very honoured to be among such fine cat stories. And, a very happy Dr Seuss day all over the world.
