Cat Wash Filter Fun

This selfie is actually one of my first experiments using camera raw. The original picture came out very dark. I had tried manual and didn’t get my settings right, so Chenzou’s ‘raw’ photograph had to be sharpened and brightened using Affinity.

Thanks to Erin and Mark of Erin the Cat Princess for bringing Affinity to my attention. The program is perfect for bloggers and does everything I need and more for a one-off payment (without the expense of Photoshop!)

Chenzou the Abstract Cat Wash

I did not have to do too much work adjusting the raw for the selfie but I removed some of the heavier shadows and sharpened the fur texture.

Chenzou looks almost like an abstract painting, so I decded to add a few filters to see how they might look. As well as my favourite Lyrical Abstraction I added two more. All three are from Photo Lab.

The Pentagon Filter

This looks spiky and almost unrecognisable.

Living in the Moment

The second filter ‘Living in the Moment’ has the feel of an old print and makes Chenzou look almost frosty. I will try this filter on other images to see how it changes colours as well as shades of black and white.

Favourite Filter – Lyrical Abstraction

I have used this filter before. I like its strong colours and the way it picks up on different elements, making them slightly abstract .

So, what do you think of our cat wash filter selfies? Do you have a picture that surprised you with a filter? Let me know in the comments.

  1. OH NO! Not Jaya too! I’ve been having a convo with her on Twitter the past week. They do have a blog but it hasn’t been active seen Shiva went OTRB.
I really like the last filter.

    • Thank you, CK. Yes, stunned us too. Jaya mentored Wise Sparkle before she passed away.

  2. The Lyrical Abstraction is my favourite filter.
I didn’t know Jaya and am not on Twitter, but send my condolences to the family.

  3. Affinity sounds like a good editing tool. We’ll take a look, too!

We are sorry to hear about Jaya’s passing. We did not know her, but we are sending comforting purrs to her family.

  4. We never heard of Affinity either but sure will check it out, those filters look great. That is very sad about Jaya.

  5. I certainly recommend Affinity, and whilst there is a lot to learn—if you wish, it is great fun and has a universe of potential, and has free upgrades for life.
I love the third filter effect the best, I guess because of the bright colours make me think of summer—which is something we still do not have here in the UK, MOL

  6. I’d never heard of Affinity. I’m going to try out the trial before purchasing. I need something to “clear up” the photos of the girls.
