Sienna In Memoriam

Today, Friday 23rd of January 2026 we lost Sienna. She was a wonderful tortoiseshell and amazing girl. Many selfie folks have left lovely comments and I am so grateful. Loss hits us all, and having the support of friends matters. I am especially grateful to Ingrid and Ann for their beautiful tribute images. I am adding these to the blog’s footer space so they are easy to find.

Thank you friend Ingrid
  • Paul has coped through all of this with an absolutely horrible cold. Sienna’s passing and speaking to the vet, and the past couple of days have been a challenge. He has, in spite of this, been a wonderful cat dad.

I don’t know what to write about her.

Thank you Ann and sweet June

Sienna left us at 16.5 years old. We had her since she was a four month old kitten, adopted from Greytown in the Wairarapa.

She was the only kitten there, returned by someone who called her ‘feral’. Feral? The cat who slept on my chest most nights and, when Paul woke up, (always earlier) she transferred to his lap while he read. She slept between us under the duvet in winter.

She took her Astro’s supplements and Royal Canin Renal willingly until late this week. She is gone and leaves a huge gap in our lives.

Sienna was here, ill at a very low level for several years, due to kidney issues (but you would never know it) then suddenly she is gone.

Earlier this month Sienna was still jumping on to Paul’s nightstand scattering his pens and keys all over. She still demanded to sit on her dad’s lap while he ‘tried’ to work on his crossword work on the sofa, and cheerfully snoozed on the deck taking over one of the comfortable chairs (with cushions), leaving Paul or myself to sit in the older director’s chair foldable.

Thankfully I have some lovely images of her and her memory will never ever fade away.

Goodbye sweet and determined Sienna – tortoiseshell in a million.

  3. Such sad, sad news. We are all terribly sorry for your loss. She was such a beautiful girl. But We believe you will be together again one day, as all those with beloved companion animals are. Meanwhile, Sienna is young and healthy once more, frolicking in the sunlit fields beyond the Rainbow Bridge.

  5. A fitting tribute to a sentient and sapient friend, companion and family member. As buddhists we know, as I think all who live with companions do, that the joy and love we bring to each other is so very real, and never more so when one leaves us.
Remember the joy and good times, and celebrate with smiles and not tears each photograph and memory as though Sienna was there on your laps and best chairs or sun puddles.
Gentle purrs to you, Paul and the rest of your clan.

  7. I don’t know which is worse: when they die suddenly, or when there is warning. I know neither is better, just worse. Godspeed, Sienna, you beautiful ‘feral’ cat.

It’s always hard when our cats leave us, they leave such a huge hole in our heart. The hole will heal but there will always be a tiny scar with memories of her. Sending you Comforting purrrrrrrrrrrrrrs
