UPDATE
I am adding this update as people have already written such positive posts lifting Jack up to the light. Our sweet ginger ninja left this world 1.15 p.m. on the 13th of July 2026.
His kidneys were failing and he had, it seems, liver issues alongside his dodgy hip. He is now pain free and leaves a huge gap where he once was.
This update is hopeful but with a tinge of worry but we are taking this one day at a time. Jack is lively today after hardly moving yesterday!! Unpredictable.
Jack’s x-Ray shows his left leg is almost in fragments at the top – hence the limp. The vet gave us a few options:
- Amputation if he is strong enough. He is sparky and bright but in pain.
- Vet speaks to a surgeon for an opinion (they will need more x-rays – Monday to see if it is part of something else).
- Jack reaches the end of his journey.
OUR THOUGHTS ? We have the weekend to see how Jack copes. We do not believe he is ready to go yet but he is very quiet as his leg is painful (yes he has a fentanyl patch)..
With our tortie Sienna we definitely felt she was winding down. Jack is bright eyed but quiet in spite of his damaged leg.
We gave him a sponge bath Friday a.m. and he was grumpy but is now clean with another ‘bath’ maybe scheduled for Sunday (it depends). I am going to research tripods and Jack is insured so there is no financial pressure. We are fighting on so, PLEASE KEEP HOPING.

I am sorry. Our pets are our constants. They are always home and always there for us. When they leave, a big opening happens in the house that can never be filled, and the silence becomes deafening. I pray that you can get through your grief and come out whole again soon.
