Beginner Cat Photo Skills

Can You Photograph an Emu?

Yes you can and they will often pose nicely for you. Especially if you visit conservation conscious Staglands Reserve, not far from Upper Hutt, near Wellington as I did recently, armed with my camera.

Emu roam across most areas of mainland Australia from the coast to snowy mountains preferring open grasslands, shrubs and forests. There are also several in Staglands that you can get reasonably close to or use a zoom option. I loved capturing their photos.

Emu Portrait

I took a couple of shots that came out nice and sharp. Although if you look at these two (above and below) I think I prefer the portrait orientation that focuses on the cute Emu eyes and face, rather than the landscape orientation.

There is a lot of empty space around the subject that draws attention away from the emu. But you do get a better view of the lovely soft focus bokeh background. The more I look the less I can decide.

What do you think of the Emu Portrait or Landscape?
