The Raindrop Cat Drinking Fountain (2024)

As the owner of a senior cat with mild kidney issues, I know that clean water is essential for cat health and wellbeing. So, I’m thrilled to review one of the top cat drinking fountains available: the Raindrop Pet Drinking Fountain.

It’s a winning combination of practicality, style, and quality craftsmanship. Watch the video below to see this premium cat product in action. For finicky felines who shun still water, the Raindrop Fountain could be the key to encouraging proper hydration.

Pioneer Pet and Raindrop Pet Drinking Fountain

Pioneer Pets shared a picture on their Twitter feed from a pet expo in the United States and one striking image of the gorgeous Raindrop cat drinking fountain was all it took to grab my attention, I just had to get in touch with Pioneer.

Let me give you a quick rundown of the fountain’s highlights that impressed me as a cat mom:

  • The Raindrop’s super stylish polished Stainless Steel shape
  • The generous capacity of 60 oz. (1.77 litres) of water
  • It is so super easy to clean
  • A quiet pump with replaceable Premium Charcoal Filters (changed every 2 to 4 weeks depending on usage)
  • A cat safe low voltage 6’/1.82m power cord
  • Dishwasher friendly.

Setting Up The Raindrop

You will find the stainless steel pet drinking fountain very easy to put together. There are two steel elements and a separate filtration motor which is set in an elegant clamshell-shaped housing.

When you set up the Raindrop, make sure you position the water pump so that it meets the top of the teardrop opening. This allows the gentle flow of water, and the hushed pump-action, to start working. Our picture below gives you a good idea of the setup.

  • We recommend you have the instruction book nearby to ensure correct placement when you put the Raindrop together for the first time.

How Will the Raindrop Work for You?

This is definitely quiet, one of the best cat fountains we have tried. The only noticeable sound is the gentle movement of the filtered water. This perfectly masks the tiniest of hums from the small motor. If you hear a noise, you may need to reassemble the casing to ensure it fits snugly.

Pioneer Pet know their pet parents might find transitioning to a new drinking fountain a challenge, so I initially set up the Raindrop without turning it on. The whole family got used to it as a ‘plain water bowl’ over several days.

You may find that this slow introduction means your cat(s) will be much less nervous about the Raindrop. My senior cat Harvey was the first to try the working fountain, which was a surprise for me as he is a ‘settled in my ways’ senior. He enjoyed drinking from the larger bowl as well as the top where the water bubbles out freshly aerated.

Overall Impressions of the Drinking Fountain

I fell in love with its clean lines and smooth good looks, and, as no-one wants to spend their precious snooze time washing up, the fact that this is the easiest to clean cat water fountain out there is a big plus. After all cats rely on hydration and beauty sleep for our health and well being.

I also love the clear instruction manual from Pioneer Pet. It is comprehensive and covers assembly, installation, cleaning and restarting the fountain after its weekly clean. There is a section on motor maintenance which shows how easy it is to keep clean.

Who Would Love the Raindrop Fountain?

  • For the multi-cat household, the generous 60 fl oz capacity lets everyone have a share.
  • Busy pet parents.will love the easy to clean Raindrop. I clean our raindrop weekly in five minutes. The motor is easy to clean monthly (Pioneer Pet video.)
  • For anyone with a love for cool design, this is one of the most elegant fountains. In fact each new fountain Pioneer Pet design and create looks just as gorgeous.
  • There is even a large size ceramic model for larger cats and small dogs.

  2. I have drinking fountain. It doesn’t look like that. I don’t use it much if at all. I wonder why my human still keeps filling it up for me?

    • MOL Sasha. Trust me those things are PAWsome! Just keep it nice and clean. Depending on your hard/soft water change the filters weekly or so.

  3. What a beautiful product. Isagold would have absolutely loved this, I wish I’d seen it previously. Betty is not so interested in flowing water, but Isa was and that desire increased when she became diabetic & had kidney problems. I’d highly recommend this for oriental cats and cats with diabetes & renal disease and will be telling my contacts to read your review.

  5. That might be something we should get, though Pipo likes to paw in the water bowls we have…imagine if it was running water??

  6. That is a neat looking water fountain! I just got one from Pet Safe for my dogs for when we are in our backyard. We love to spend time outside, but it is so hot here in the summer!

  7. I love the sleek style! Most auto water bowls don’t look as nice in a kitchen per say, but this is so nice! I have big drooly dogs, I wish there was a way to combat that lol!

  8. Staying hydrated can be tough during July up here! Though it is not as hot here as it is in areas further south in the US, it gets very humid (80%+ every day) so you sweat out a lot of the water you take in. Your fountain looks like a very nice way to keep the water flowing for the kitties! I love that it is so quiet. My kitties love their fountain too. 🙂

  9. Kilo the Pug is cat like in his preference for clean running water. He demands refreshes at least once a day. I totally encourage him so I would LOVE this fountain. What a beautiful review. I tried one but it did not work as well and he tired of it.

  11. Your videos are really fabulous. Love how this one fades in and out with the images and the music. The fountain is also featured very professionally. Great job!

Happy also to hear this fountain is good for cats and small dogs as we have both!

  12. Great idea. I don’t have a cat, but am a dog person and I sometimes wonder if my dogs drink enough water. They don’t seem to drink at all while I am at work. When my mom owned Buffy, my blond cocker spaniel, she actually restricted her water since she thought she peed too often. When my mom died, I took Buffy and leave water out all the time and she doesn’t have any problems. I thought it was so cruel that she restricted Buffy’s water intake.

  13. A fountain for the multi-pet household and busy parents? Sounds like a winner! How often does the fountain need to get cleaned? The one we bought years ago is probably not big enough for our growing household of pets. It also took a lot of time to keep in good shape.

    • Alison, we clean ours weekly, this allows us to stop the build up of unpleasant things like biofilm. We would guess that the nature of the water i.e. hard or soft might indicate a longer (or shorter) time between cleaning.

  14. It’s a lovely looking fountain. I bet Mr. N could make do with the cat fountain instead of the dog one. Do you know how often filters have to be changed?

    Reply
    • Pioneer Pet recommend between 2 to 4 weeks – I have monitored our filters and 4 weeks is working for us. I think Mr N would find it a good fit.

  15. This looks wonderful and elegant, and very practical too. Nice to see that your family are all liking it, and the fact that is near quiet really is a boon. This I have tried before have been rather noisy and off putting!
Thanks for a great review of what clearly is a well thought out/designed product.

  16. What a great video! It was interesting to that some of the cats preferred the moving water, others chose the more traditional bowl part. I think my pets would enjoy a fountain, but we have hard water, and I think it would be difficult to keep it running.

  17. We love pet fountains. We had one of these, but we didn’t like it as much as a fountain with a stream to drink from. Mom Paula remembers the earlier fountains being loud, but the newer fountains are very quiet.

  18. We have the Raindrop fountain and absolutely love it. I really like how quiet it is. Other fountains we’ve tried spouted the water out and made too much trickly noises, so the cats never went near them. They actually drink out of this one. I like that it’s stainless steel too!

  19. What a fantastic addition for any cat home! They can’t resist that sound of running delicious water!!!!

  20. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this fountain on Amazon before! I don’t have cats, but I have small dogs. The fountain I have for them now was designed for cats (shh don’t tell them that) but it works well for them. I’ll have to consider this one if I ever need a replacement.

    • Daily as we are a multicat household. A single pet might consume less in winter than summer but the pet parent should keep an eye it does not fall below the recommended level (this would affect the pump).

  22. Ensuring out pets are properly hydrated is so important and anything we can do to encourage it is a bonus. Fountains are a wonderful way to do this.

  23. I love that it’s quiet! That’s always one of my biggest concerns because I’m worried that if a fountain was too loud, it would scare away my cat and make her not want to use it. Great review
