Jack Is On A Music CD

Our senior ginger Jack has often been featured here on the blog as part of my beginner how-to’s and portraits for cat photography, but Jack recently became part of something rather special – a community created album by ambient label WhiteLabRecs that is also a fundraiser.

  • UPDATE Launches 14 February: ‘This Burnished Land’ (which incorporates Jack’s purr in one of its tracks) is offered as a pay what you can. Any monies pledged will be set aside and after six months, donated to a charity, called Young Sounds. The charity works with disadvantaged children in the UK to provide them with opportunities to learn to play music. ORDER LINK: Whitelabrecs

As you can see from the update, the album will be available from 14th February (US time I believe) and it is a fundraiser to help children learn and love music. The title ‘This Burnished Land‘ is taken from a poem written by a member of the Inner Echo (a community of ambient fans and creatives) and label owner Harry Towell is a nice guy and talented creative.

What is Ambient Music?

Ambient music is a genre of music that emphasises tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. Often “peaceful” sounding and, sometimes lacking composition, beat, and/or structured melody, ambient music uses textural layers of sound that can reward both passive and active listening, and encourage a sense of calm or contemplation. Wikipedia

Ambient is very popular, especially with stressed or anxious people who need help to unwind, meditate or get to sleep. A bonus is the modest prices of the discs on Bandcamp which means the digital downloads are within the budget of more people.

How did Jack get involved?

A call went out to an ambient community I belong to called The Inner Echo for contributions to a new soundtrack that was being created. A couple of non-musician members asked if we could be involved and field recordings like a walk outside or a cat purr were suggested. I submitted Jack’s purr.

The people doing the final sound mixes said this would be great so Jack and I got to work and contributed the purrs which have been incorporated into one of the tracks. I am not sure how much Jack’s purr will come out but we are very proud to be included.

Jack Joined Real Musicians!

Something I want to mention.

WhiteLabRecs artists, and owner Harry, do not use AI in any way to create their music and Jack and I are proud to support a small and genuine creative company. All of the sound you here has real people involved from engineers, to album cover artists to Jack the ginger ninja (senior extraordinaire).

  3. Congratulations Jack!! We think of taking tons of pictures and videos of our pets, but I think capturing their “sounds” are just as precious. Brilliant idea.

  4. WOW!!! How fun!!!! Please do let us know when it’s available. It’s a brilliant idea! I love the sound of a purring cat. I often accuse Henry of purring. Then I realize that it’s just his heart murmur. But it does remind me of my purring kitties, which I always found so comforting. We should all support the little guys who use their brains rather than AI. WOOHOO and MEOW to the brain thinkers!!!

  7. So 😎 cool for Jack to be in this, especially with no AI involved! (I don’t like the use of AI in creative work either.)
