During the Summer months massive cruise ships visit Wellington’s harbour, docking at Aotea Quay. They absolutely fizz with people keen to explore the city. Some take the walk into town, and some the shuttlebus or a taxi – everything is just a short walk away once you are in the city itself. One of the most popular attractions is ‘Wellywood‘. OK, this isn’t just one place, but there is a lot of information here, including a downloadable Wellington Film Map with lots of locations. The Roxy Cinema and Rivendell are two special places worth a trip (The Roxy features in a future Middle Earth Monday!) Mum visited Weta Cave for one of their popular behind the scenes movie tours. It was exciting and fun to be taken to see how many of the things we see in the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar and District 9 were made. She was not allowed to take pictures on the tour itself (frustrating as there was so much exciting stuff) but the tour guide – one of the Weta Workshop sculptors – was really fun. We will be writing about that, and the inside of the Weta Cave next week………. Today Middle Earth Monday is shining the spotlight on the spectacular entrance to the Weta Cave shop which is in front of the Weta Workshop facility in the suburb of Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand.
