A New Vet in Stokes Valley? Tell Us More!
This week we are celebrating the re-opening of our local veterinary surgery here in Stokes Valley, Lower Hutt. We are joining the blog hop ‘Thankful Thursday’ with Brian and his family, and hope you can join us for this celebratory post welcoming a new veterinary team to the Valley.
Many readers will remember our report on our vet Dr. Hughes, and his sudden retirement due to ill-health. Dr Hughes has been an amazing vet, compassionate and caring, so we obviously had worries about whether the veterinary service would continue in our valley after he stepped down.
The community here is growing, and the need for a local veterinary service will only get more pressing over time.
Who Is the New Vet in Stokes Valley?
Thanks to the hard work of a local animal New Zealand charity ‘Helping You Help Animals‘ or HUHA for short – the surgery has re-opened with Dr Lisa Argila at the helm, until permanent vets are appointed.

We hope that the people of Stokes Valley will welcome the return of their local veterinary practice as it saves long drives, or expensive taxi rides, to vets further away from our suburb. We have met one of the HUHA people, Carolyn, who was very welcoming and compassionate while we struggled to keep a grip on Dusty’s health in May 2017.
Dr Hughes worked hard, and was very kind to those in need. We hope that while HUHA is also kind, it keeps a firm hand on the finances that will allow it thrive, and grow, and also generate a lot of goodwill in the local community.
- If you need to drop by 13 George St Stokes Valley, or give them a call on to make an appointment on (04) 563 6826. They are open from 8-5pm Monday to Friday.

I am glad you have a new vet.
Ooh sounds like they stepped in, in the nick of time. Thank goodness they are a good crowd too, maybe they’ll stay permanently?

That’s amazing news, Miranda Kitten. So Happy for you?Pawkisses for a wonderful Thankful Day??
So wonderful you have a new vet in your neck of the woods. That is so important. We were so upset when the city proposed to take the property our vets business was on by emminant domain for police station, which we need. Thankfully, a lot of other people were upset too, and they changed locations.
