Check out a tiny tabby stalker in the wild! Prowling in the Summer sun.
Don’t worry though Toulouse didn’t get his ‘prey’. He sneaked quietly across the lawn and kept his eye firmly on the Cabbage White butterfly but it flew away faster than the tabby prowler could run.
I had my telephoto lens firmly focused on his gaze and this is the best of the series of shots I took. It was a great use of sport/burst mode.
Who thought something so small could move so fast, but it did! Toulouse scampered off afterwards shrugging off his hunting fail as the weather is still wonderfully warm here and the garden his perfect playground.
I have cropped the photo so the tabby is the centre of attention and his look leads your eye to the pale butterfly. I swear the little creature is looking at him and waiting for the perfect moment to fly away.
Do you get to chase critters? If you enjoy a catio, can a butterfly or something exciting and buzzy get in?

What a great photo! Truffle and Brulee like to stalk the roaches that creep into our home. You should see Brulee swat a fly out of mid air!!!
Now I would love to see a smartphone move about that! Those two sound so much fun!
Perfect shot, Marjorie! I love that you captured his intensity and your eye definitely does follow his gaze all the way to the butterfly. If you saw this photo without explanation, you’d walk away wondering if Toulouse got his prey or not!
Love & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
My dog used to chase everything that moved, including butterflies, tadpoles … over time, she settled on things that are more worthwhile, such as mice or frogs.
Such a great shot! What intensity he has on his face watching that butterfly! I do love that sports mode! When I had all five Huskies and they were running and playing in our yard, I’d rely on that setting catch them and was able to capture some great action shots! Pinning to share!
I love this picture! I often find myself watching our cats when they go through the moments like this, but I get distracted in watching and forget to try to take pictures lol That being said, they are often my favourite moments and I would love to have them captured in an image to look at down the road. I think I might try to set up my camera the next time we do a backyard hangout time so that I can hopefully be at least partially as successful as you were with this one!
He is so focused! Glad he didn’t wallow in his failure! Lol
That is an awesome shot! Tolouse looks very determined to get closer to the butterfly.
He WAS, but when he failed he bounced off carefree as a butterfly himself!
What an amazing photo, just perfect as always
Great photo of Toulouse. I was sad to read about Boris, he was a legend. XO
We try to catch those flutterbys, too and also the many moths, but we hardly ever even can get even close to any! Still we keep trying!
Love that wonderful action shot, Toulouse is taut and ready to spring!! And his eyes are riveted on the hopeful prize!
We did not know Boris, but sorry he had to become an angel kitty.
Such a pawsome shot! We’re heartbroken over Boris Kitty.
What a great shot! The intense look on Toulouse’s face!
What a marvelous photo of Toulouse in pounce-mode! We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Boris Kitty.
Toulouse those flitter Byes always stay near our kitty fence and taunt us by slipping out right as we get close. They sure are fast.
So sorry to hear about Boris. He did a lot for so many
Great photo, Toulouse! Marjorie, I really like how you cropped the photo.
We, too, were so sad to learn of Boris’ passing.
Those butterflies are hard to catch, Toulouse!
That really is pounce-ready, terrific photo!
