Miranda is celebrating the arrival of warmer weather here in New Zealand by springing into summer. It is also Thanksgiving in Canada tomorrow so we send our best wishes to our Canadian cat friends.
Cats love to leap, and Miranda jumps across the stream at the end of our garden, especially when we are tidying and weeding over there. All of the cats love to keep us company as we work in the garden.
The first picture shows Miranda posing for a selfie on the far side of the wall that lines the stream. The picture is not posed, or perfect but it gives you a great idea of how wide the stream is.
You can see the water at the bottom of the picture and a wrought iron bridge on the right-hand side.
How Do Cats Jump?
If you look at Miranda in the second photograph, she is leaping fearlessly from one side to the other. In fact, she is jumping back from the side you see her on in the first picture.
Look at Miranda’s paws.
All four of them are ready for her to land. She always jumps like this whether she is jumping up on to the bed at bedtime, or launching herself across the stream. The only other cat in our family who jumped like this was the late great
Some of the other cats in the Dash Kitten Crew launch themselves using their strong back legs, leaping almost like a gazelle. Their bodies elongate as they stretch out and upwards as they jump for their destination.
How to your cats like springing into Summer or maybe even Autumn?
