Schrödinger’s Cat Spotted in New Zealand

Schrödinger’s Cat Spotted in New Zealand

Today’s unusual selfie features a cat rarely (if ever) seen, namely Schrödinger’s cat.

Named after a thought experiment by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger, the cat is fabled to exist, or not, depending on a lot of science that is way beyond most of us mere non-scientific mortals. But…..

On a pre-Christmas visit to Schrödinger’s Bookshop which is definitely in Petone, New Zealand, a small black cat was spotted near the Science and Space section on the bookshop. Is this the cat himself?

Who knows…….

Schrödinger’s cat – or is it?

In quantum mechanics, Schrödinger’s cat is a thought experiment that illustrates a paradox of quantum superposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

A Sneak Peek At Christmas Day’s Selfie

On Christmas Day we unveil the wonderful painting by New Zealand artist Sandra Wong of our Dot Kitten, much missed cheeky chatterbox of the Dash Kitten Crew. We collected the painting on a trip to the Wairarapa last week and its amazing.

See you then!

  1. Such deep thoughts….or are they?? LOL!
That looks like its going to be a most amazing painting of dear sweet and melodious Dot!

  2. Whoo hooo! I finally solved why I was given a 404 error message: popups were blocked (like for everyone). For some reason, I unblocked popups for you today. But I don’t see any popups here. But whatever . . . I can comment now!

  3. That’s one of my favorite books! Good for her to put display it prominently. I can’t wait for the unveiling of the painting. It looks wonderful.

  4. With Schrodinger’s cat, your blog is here or it isn’t. Was unable to comment on a few tries. Love the science of quantum physics and the belief that we create our own reality (of the Seth Speaks books).

  5. So Schroedinger’s cat may or may not be in the box, but it IS most definitely in that bookshop. We love it! 🙂

Looking forward to seeing Sandra Wong’s painting on Christmas!

  6. Oooh, can’t wait to see the whole picture! I do think the cat gets a very raw deal in this quantum theory. Schrodinger’s Mug of Tea would have worked just as well. But, hey ho, that is human science for you!
