I discovered some really cool number plates on a visit to the New Zealand Cat Fancy’s National Show a few years ago and I wanted to share it again for newer readers. Welcome to licence plate New Zealand with cat loving style!
The New Zealand Cat Show was hosted by Dominion Shorthair Inc. and provided me with a unique opportunity to capture cat love from a different perspective.
Apart from the superb selection of cats on display at this huge cat show, the love and commitment of the cat owners was evident in the personalised fun number plates. I think these are called ‘licence plates’ in the USA?
Exploring The Car Park!
I spotted an NZ licence plate as we drove into the car park and grabbed a moment to walk around and see if I could find some more imaginative feline themed plates. I knew you would all love seeing them. So, while this post is light on text it’s full of fun pictures I know you will appreciate.
I looked out for them after I spotted the Flurmonz Maine Coons (FB link) car and their pussy mover!
Their Maine Coons in the show were definitely amongst the most adorable pedigree breeds I saw! Substantial and commanding in size but with a calm grace in spite of the crowds who gathered to adore them.
New Zealand Cat Show Video
It always surprises me how calm and professional the cats are when they are handled by the judges. They take it all in their stride and the gentle handling by the white coated attendants is always impressive.
The video I shot of the 2018 National New Zealand Cat Fancy Show gives you a flavour of New Zealand’s most important annual show. The Wellington suburb of Berhampore, where it took place, has strong Indian infuences including the architecture of some public buildings. The suburb lies towards the south of the city, four kilometres (2.5 miles) from the city centre, and two kilometres from the coast of Cook Strait where you can often look out and see the coast of the South Island.
Birman Cat Number Plates
The Birman lovers were out in force with three splendid plates that made us smile. We think the image above one suggests that there may be more room for Birmans in this household,
The delicate fluffy grace of the Birman breed certainly caught the eye of many cat lovers eye! They are one of the most popular breeds here in New Zealand. I loved Belzicats Birmans number plate.
Our friends at Neko Ngeru Cat Cafe attended the show to publicise the cat cafe and sell some of their gorgeous merchandise. I adore their strollers and as our vet is close enough for a nice walk, my purchase was one I did not regret.
While their licence plate is not cat themed, I am including this as a cool example of great graphics and branding. Our friends at Neko Ngeru also sponsored a ribbon for Best Companion Cat.
We suspect that this car owner either comes from a multipet household, or runs a pet supply business further north of the Wellington area. This plate is eye catching and will make all pet lovers smile!
Our final cat number plate is the one we saw when we pulled in to park before the show. My first thought was our colleague Paula at Sweet Purrfections would have absolutely loved the by-line on this one. ‘Persians A Touch of Class’.
Do you see many personalised cat number plates where you come from? Maybe at cat shows or pet expos?
Did any company imporess you with their inventive number plate?
These personalized plates are all so much fun! I have always wanted to get personalized plates, but I’m not sure what I would get on them. Maybe I will see if I can get something related to the new brand that my husband and I launched together. That could be fun.
I love that you pointed out the Maine Coons. I’ve always had a love of that breed. They are such sweet gentle giants.
Wow, these plates are so fun! I should get one for my dog since our vehicle is a pooch coach anyway.
Those are fabulous! I need a tortie plate 🙂 I do have an “Owned by a tortie” keychain hanging on my rear view mirror…
How fun! I l enjoyed reading those plates. I had one for years for my five huskies – 5 Sibes – I loved it! And someone once recognized me from following my blog and saw my vehicle with the personalized plates in front of a post office!
Also – that video was super! So many pretty cats!
I love this post, I personally think cat shows or any pet show is just fun as we see so much, what us crazy pet owners are up to and the license plates just say it all, great post and the video was fabulous
These are all great, so clever! Yes, in the US we call them “license plates”, and when you make up your own name/number combination it is called a “vanity plate” and there’s an extra charge annually to have one. I do see pet lover license plates around, but I see more bumper stickers than plates.
I love personalized license plates, license plate frames, and car stickers. I must confess I’m not always the best at deciphering them, but these were great! Although, you had me ROTFLMA with the first one. That totally means something completely different here in the states, especially here in Nevada. Seriously, I had tears running down my face.
I loved the cat show video. I’ve never seen a cat show. You’re right I’m shocked by how calm the cats were when the judges were stretching them out and moving every which way. If I were a cat in that situation, it wouldn’t go so well.
The Cat Cafe merchandise is awesome! That’s a great way to add revenue to a non-profit with cool designs that any cat lover would love. I bet they have a huge selection of car stickers. Super idea!
Very cool plates. 🙂
Hey, thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop! We’re all okay here, the leftover hurricane won’t be as bad as expected once it reaches us.
These are cool! We used to go to cat shows just to look at the cats and to shop for cat toys and t-shirts in the merchandise section. It was fun to see the different cats and they had a household pet section too. It never occurred to me to look at license plates!
Oohhh… OOHHH… I want a personalised plate, too! I want one that says, MOUSES! Yup, that’s what I want, for sure. purrs
Those plates are so cool ! People are so fun and creative ! You don’t see personalized plates in Switzerland. Purrs
Oh yeah – its like that at all the shows. My favorite is the cat jdg plate with the cat decal on the back window – the tail is the window wiper.
Those are awesome! We don’t think we’ve ever seen a cat-themed plate (or maybe not even a bumper sticker for cats) but we see lots of dog plates and stickers. We cats need some representation here, folks!
How fun! You know, it never occurred to my human to look at the plates when we go to cat shows – I bet she’s been missing some good ones.
Very cool plates.
Those were fun! We see a lot of personalized plates…but not too many cat related ones.
I have a feline themed plate…my second one actually. They are fun for sure, and yours wwere great, thanks for sharing them with us.
Those are cute!
Those are pretty cool, maybe I need one for the Dad’s car! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Those were fun. We don’t see many personalized plates in Massachusetts because we have to pay double for them.
You do? OH my cat that must be expensive.

thats a LOT of fun number plates in one place. It’s great when folk have a bit of fun with them and make others smile too. I do like the graphics on Neko Ngeru’s car, alas I couldnt persuade Mrs H to have something similar on her bicycle MOL
