We have some mystery jewellery and would love your help!

Meet our small unknown figure, a piece of jewellery given to us by our friend Pearl. It is so well made that we know it must be genuine ‘vintage’, which means over 20 years old, and we need your help, working out what it is, so grab those thinking caps!

It is not a brooch, there is a loop behind the head (see the picture below), so we think it would be part of a necklace….

  • We are hoping this blog post on our Jewellery Mystery will allow us to reach out to our pals worldwide! Sass, in the comments, suggests it is part of a ‘Mother and Child’ jewellery piece. We have not managed to find an image yet – it you find one let us know. There will be a $20 reward voucher for jewellery from Mum’s shop!

Here are the details of the mystery jewellery figure, and we are hoping you have a mum or family who might be able to help.

  • 2.5 ins/6 cms high
  • We believe – Brass
  • A loop at the head (soldered) and possibly a faint off mark/word E (?)
  • Tapering sinuous figure shape
  • Possibly one of a pair – the arm curls into a hook indicating possible attachment to another figure/element.

Mystery Jewellery

If it is valuable we intend to donate the sale proceeds to charity. We at Dash Kitten are curious about its history, as it is well made and intrigues us enough for us to play at detectives!

Can you help? Let us know in the comments!

  1. I tried to do a search to see what the ‘E’ would stand for, but with no luck. I do agree that a piece is missing which would indicate a mother and child arrangement. It looks like a pendent for a necklace.

    1. You bet Miss Tanya! 50% to Place for Cats a small NYC foster network (501c3), and 50% to our local Rescue (NZ equivalent). We are proud of our record in fundraising!

    1. Same here Andrea! We have had commenters doing searches on the piece from the USA – which is great as different places get different results to us in New Zealand.

  2. I have to admit I’m stumped, but it is a lovely piece! I thought ear cuff too, before I noticed the loop behind the head, which also makes me think pendant. Whatever it is, I really like the design!

  3. Tried doing a google image search as well, no luck! Hope you find something out soon. It is a very interesting piece.

  4. Hmmmm, a mystery indeed. I really have no idea of what it could be ??? would love to find out. Please post once you know….sounds like quite a few of us are up for you solving the mystery and knowing what it is. Best of luck!

  5. Wow, that is a tough one, but I am so intrigued to find out. Please let us know when you find out. Maybe a magnet?

  6. I don’t think it’s part of a mother & child figurine unless it is a hanging figurine because there wouldn’t be a loop on the back of the figure’s head – plus I think it’s rather small to be a figurine.

It *could* be part of a mother & child necklace where both figures have a loop through the head or it could be a set of 2 necklaces – a mother and a child separately that you can “hook” together using the arms.

I tried to Google search it but came up completely empty for an image that matched your little mystery figure.

  7. How intriguing! It’s a beautiful piece of art, whatever its original purpose – I do hope you get to find out its history and purpose. It looks very much like something you’d find from the 1930s but I have (alas) no knowledge of vintage jewellery – just an appreciation of the beauty from that era.
