Explore Weta Cave

Mum visited Weta Cave for one of their popular behind the scenes movie tours. It was exciting and fun to be taken to see how many of the things we see in the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar and District 9 were made.

She was not allowed to take pictures on the tour itself (frustrating as there was so much exciting stuff) but the tour guide – one of the Weta Workshop sculptors – was really fun. We will be writing about that, and the inside of the Weta Cave next week……….

Today Middle Earth Monday is shining the spotlight on the spectacular entrance to the Weta Cave shop which is in front of the Weta Workshop facility in the suburb of Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand. Meet the three cave trolls from The Hobbit. These guys are huge, mega more than life size!!

Bert the Troll is front right and more information can be found on him here, downtrodden Tom is at the back, and group leader William on the left on the pictures.

See you next week for more insights into Weta!

  1. Oh, how exciting that must have been. I can’t wait to read more about it. I wish you could have taken pictures inside. The trolls really whetted my appetite to see more.
