Welcome to Huka Falls on Middle Earth Monday.
New Zealand is in the spotlight thanks to Peter Jackson’s films. Tolkien’s fascinating books have made such an impact on so many people around the world, that by watching the films, you get a real feel for New Zealand’s natural beauty.
Middle Earth Monday at Huka Falls
The popular tourist destination Huka Falls in Wairakei Park, are the largest on the Waikato River, which is near Lake Taupo in the middle of the North Island. The water here is the most amazing turquoise blue. A phenomenon caused by super-clear water reflecting blue light, which is intensified by air bubbles. Dad crossed the bridge over the Falls when he took part in a fundraising challenge and said the noise was quite something!
The Waikato River is 425 km(264 miles) long and 100 metres(109 ft) wide but here the water is forced into a narrow space 20 metres(21 yds) wide with a drop of 11 metres(12 yd! The water rushes through at a rate of 220,000 litres (over 58,000 gallons) a second making a spectacular show of spray.
We look forward to bringing you more from Middle Earth on Mondays, so you see New Zealand at its best!
See you then
