2017 Review Dash Kitten Blog

Helping Cat Blog Readers in 2017

Our cat blog readers are the backbone of the Dash Kitten blog. Cat lovers are the keenest blog readers (don’t tell our dog buddies! 😉 ) and you continue to amaze us with your support and regular visits. We are grateful for your company. Some visitors do not comment but every one of you is special to us, so thank you all.

We thought you might like to see which of our posts have been most popular this past year. 2017 was a year of transition for us including the move to a new blog presentation, and a focus more on ‘cat tech’ and ‘movie making’ fun. Some top posts pleased us, some surprised us.

Our shift to being a cat information website balancing fun, entertainment and education has paid dividends as you will see. Let us know what you think. Each header is the blog post link.

Our Top Cat Blog Post of 2017

Introducing the Cat Locator TABCAT

We were thrilled to be asked to review this cutting edge cat locator in April 2017. We believe we hit a nerve with this review and it’s accompanying video. Our YouTube video is already over 1,500 views.

Driving Mr Dusty Memorial Series

Our second top post was the memorial drive celebration of Dusty’s final trip. The collection of movies was begun after we discovered our senior boy loved car rides and the posts remain popular to this day. The title Driving Mr Dusty was suggested by our dog blogging colleagues at Sarcastic Dog and we are so glad we could use it.

Meet Bruce the Cat

Facebook celebrity Bruce the Cat granted us an exclusive interview in July.  He is a black cat transformed from a tiny grey kitten and his interview was enjoyed by hundreds of readers! He had plenty of exciting news to share in his interview and some gorgeous black panfur pictures! His book will be published in February.

The Sure Petcare Feeder Review

Our focus on pet tech allowed us to feature one of our most popular cat products, the Sure Petcare Feeder, formerly known as the ‘Surefeed’. Sure Petcare are innovative leaders in the development of cat related technology and we will be including their latest cat door developments in an upcoming review.

This feeder is a popular addition to our household, and an investment in keeping our cat food fly-free and fresh. Thanks to several responses about keeping unwanted visitors from helping themselves to special diet foods, we were also able to advise some owners about the Surefeed Microchip Feeder which is microchip activated and keeps unwelcome visitors from a cat’s special diet!

Cat Lovers Worldwide Blog Collection

To our surprise and pleasure, our category of international blog interviews has been hugely popular. People come to visit via the front page, where different worldwide cat blogs are features every time you visit. Although predominantly cat focused, our interviews include:

  • Nose to Nose nominees Therapy Rat blog Healing Whiskers
  • Kings River Life (what every online local magazine should be like!)
  • Popular Persian traveller and now proud Canadian Cat Marvelous
  • Herman (aka Sherlock Herms) from Wonderpurr
  • and the fabulous Coco the Couture Cat

The Most Stylish Drinking Fountain of the Year

We spotted the Pioneer Pet Drinking fountain when it was featured at BlogPaws 2017. It blew us away with its style. We love this fountain. It is such an easy care way to keep cats hydrated. It can be cleaned and back up and running in five minutes.

We loved making a fun and fabulous video to accompany the post, and we gave so many of the Dash Kitten Crew a starring role! It seems hydration is a key issue for many in the cat blogosphere, making this one of our top posts.

The Raindrop is still Harvey’s favourite drinking spot, and Pioneer Pet have included our bonus video on the Raindrop filter on their website. How cool is that.

The Pet Video Challenge

Two posts go head to head for the final top spot. Our video challenge post, and the finalists announcement post here. The aim of the challenge was to encourage novice movie makers to explore an new area of movie making. Our skills explored included slow-mo, editing and using the iMovie trailer function.

The challenge had seven entrants and each submission was a lot of fun to watch, and see them cheered by some of the best cat sites on the net. We are glad to see this in our top 10 posts.

We are thrilled to be able to present to you the posts that hit the top of our cat blog readers hit parade, and hope to do even better in 2018. Thanks for your support and help!

Do you have a favourite post? Let us know.

Happy New Year and may 2018 be good to you all.

  1. You guys definitely had an exciting year! Lots of cool cat products featured here, and of course the handsome Dusty. So many great posts. It’s always fun to look back at what the most popular posts of the year are. Thanks for this nice walk down Dash Kitten memory lane!

  2. HEY!! Don’t forget about us Dog Blog readers, we love the Dash Kitten Crew too! I loved so many of these posts, and I especially appreciated your wonderful Video Challenge, it was just the kick in the pants I needed to put my video fears aside and dive into creating videos!

  3. Your videos tell the stories in such a fun and informative way…no wonder they have so many views! Cats definitely need tracked since they are so good at hiding and watching their humans look for them.

    1. Paroma, you are very kind. It is our aim to help, and to empower others so they know what to do. We love your travelogues too, if you every need help carrying a bckpack or a dog walker 😉

  4. We enjoyed the Driving Mr. Dusty series. I know it was hard work, but you gave dusty a wonderful time during his last days and I’m sure your heart is full of joy as you watch the videos again and again.

  5. Oh I remember the Mr.Dusty video series when I first discovered your blog. Fond memories as your cat Dusty had the same name as my deceased cat. I can’t explain it but seeing your movie video reminded me to focus on the good memories and fun times. You’re vlogs made me smile. Hmm I’ll have to check out some of your other popular blogs I missed last year!

  6. Congratulations on such a great year of posts! 1500 views on your YouTube video is amazing and video is something I really want to focus on this coming year.

  7. Year after year, you continue to bring great content to your readers. I hope one day my blog will be as successful as yours has been for years. Keep up the great work! (My favorite of your top ranking 2017 stories was following the Pet Video Challenge. Perhaps I’ll be brave enough to enter the next time!)

  8. What a fun collection of posts from 2017! I really like when some of my favorite blogs (like yours) do this cause I see loads of posts I missed and want to go back to read. Somehow I’d missed the blog collection so I’ll be heading into that sometime soon. Happy New Year!

  9. Great blog posts. I especially liked the interview with Bruce the cat. We have something in common. I too changed colors, was a very light Siamese looking kitten and now am all dark brown and black (still have my baby blue eyes though). The feeder was interesting too but I ‘m wondering if it might create a bit of chaos with the Tribe of Five.

Happy 2018 to the Dash Kitten felines and to your humans as well!
