Dwarves and Villains
Welcome to our collection of costume photographs from The Hobbit.
When the films premiered here in New Zealand, many of the dwarf and hobbit costumes were showcased around the capital and I grabbed the chance to photograph as many as I could.
Some were tough to capture but I believe there is enough detail to allow cosplay fans and movie followers to get an idea of the creative detail in each one. Recreating the costumes is much easier and more inspiring with the pictures.
Hobbit Costume – Details
You can get to your favourite dwarf costume details at the links below. You will see our descriptions and as many detailed images as I was able to take.
There are highly detailed images of Thorin and Bilbo Baggins costumes, many of the dwarven company, and some shots of Azog the Defiler whose life-size recreation was on display at Te Papa, Wellington’s major museum of cultural history.
Dwarf Costumes and a Hobbit
Bifur (coming soon. My old camera images have been retrieved Jan 2018)
Smaug the Dragon
There was no recreation of Smaug for the movie premiere but a superb model was made of his head by Weta Workshop. This was on display at Wellington Airport and our link includes a short movie giving an idea of size and scale.
