I love black and white photography and you may remember my post about making your own successful black and white photographs. This week I want to showcase a dramatic cat portrait that improves on a photo I showed a couple of years ago..
Right now I am participating in a course by August Dering. It’s called Dramatic Black and White. (There was a special offer on pricing. Mr Dering’s courses are not usually cheap!) The series is much bigger than one photograph but as I work through the course I am looking at what I have already shot with fresh eyes and came across this one in my library. I wanted to revisit it and see what a few small adjustments could do.
- The course uses Photoshop (PS) and Capture One, but I will see what I can do with Affinity Photo because the budget doesn’t stretch to a monthly subscription to PS. I am learning lots.
This is Chenzou and you may remember seeing this image in colour a couple of years ago. I decided to adjust it to monochrome from the dark but coloured exposure below.
The coloured version is below. The settings in the second picture were not successful, although I liked it regardless. It’s been transformed by the change to black and white.
What do you think of Chenzou’s dramatic cat portrait?
