Sometimes when I am struggling to take an action shot and my camera isn’t quite fast enough, I get frustrated and think ‘Oh if only…..’
Then I take a breath. I have a camera, i’ts a great creative tool and it serves me well. I also have a smartphone that works really well at capturing fabulous shots. Why get frustrated?
I am lucky to have the cameras I do have.
This was Drama with a Smartphone
Remember Harry? I introduced him to the blog some time ago. This picture was, believe it or not, taken with a smartphone. An iPhone 6s.
When I was looking for inspiration I remembered this one. It also brought home to me the words of Paul from Australian teacher and YouTube creator Paul of Photo Genius.”It’s not the camera it’s the user that counts“.
Photo Genius is hosting an ‘all are welcome’ group on Facebook for a ‘self isolation photography challenge‘ where smartphones are welcome too and it is proving interesting and a lot of fun with a different challenge each week. I was on the look out for some interesting challenges being stuck at home, and kept my eyes open.
I managed one shot I really like.
Harvey by the light of a bedside lamp with his water glass.
A smartphone does not have the fancy focus adjustments of a compact or a DSLR but it still managed to look pretty good. I managed to create drama with my smartphone and the soft glow from a bedside lamp.
Harvey is very close to the camera and the glass further away so I managed some fuzzy depth of field without realising what I had done.

I hope you enjoyed Harvey’s portrait this week and that you will join the Kitties Blue for our own weekly challenge of fantastic selfies!
