This has to be the perfect cute cat on a lovely quilt selfie – right? Mum started this quilt as a ‘Block of the Month’ about 7 years ago not long after she moved to New Zealand. As she had to cut the pieces and do it in inches, not her usual metric centimetres, Mum did not finish the cutting and sewing as she lacked the confidence and skill.
Then something interesting happened to make sure I was the cute cat on a lovely quilt!
After starting to do a new project some months ago, a ‘Mystery Quilt‘ from local fabric shop Quilters Lane, Mum had one of those ‘I can DO this’ moments and realised she had already done most of the hard work cuttiing and sewing the fabric pieces for the quilt. So, taking a breath, she got the fabrics out and finished the half made quilt in less than a week! She could not believe how easy it had become.
- The lesson? Skills come with time and an investment in learning – if you can’t do something now, don’t beat yourself up – give yourself more time to learn!
It turns out she gave up too early, feeling intimidated by the cutting and measuring. She had actually done all of the hard work! The good news is that the quilt looks beautiful now it is finished, and to celebrate, as part of The Cat on my Head Sunday Selfie Blog Hop, I posed on the quilt!
