Mr Puffy Face Goes to the Vet

Who is Mr Puffy Face?

Why that’s me Harvey Button 😉 I am sharing my experience in the hope it helps another kitty with their cat vet visit, and we are also joining with the Thankful Thursday hop hosted by Brian and his family.

Thankful Thursday

Why a Cat Vet Visit, is Something Wrong ?

I had my senior check up and annual blood panel a few weeks ago. We had been waiting for our local vet to reopen, and much as I don’t like vet visits, I know it is important for me as a senior to get a six monthly health check.

Our appointment was with Dr Lisa who said I appeared to have either thyroid or kidney issues but it was hard to tell. Thyroid can mask what the kidneys are up to so I was put on a medicine called Vidalta and the plan was for me to return in one month for a further blood test.

Funnily enough, I don’t seem to have seen this Vidalta medicine in my favourite food, I don’t know how mum is getting it past me!

Mr Puffy Face - I really REALLY don't want to be here!

Enough of the Backstory What’s with Mr Puffy Face??

Two days ago Mum looked at me…..

“Harvey are you putting on weight? I know those tablets are making you eat more but even so”

Yesterday…… the look on her face was more serious, much as I tried to hide it, my face definitely looked like something out of a Tom and Jerry cartoon. I was puffy under the eyes and around the cheeks. You can get an idea of why she called me puffy in the header image up at the top! Nowhere else mind you, just my face.

Don’t worry, I was not showing any signs of distress, but even so. Before I could gather my wits together I was on my way to for an unscheduled cat vet visit! Sheeesh

You don’t look like Mr Puffy Face now?

Thankfully no!

It seems, according to the vet, that I had an allergic reaction to ‘something’. What that might be he isn’t sure, so we are checking for anything unfamiliar at home, anything new we may have forgotten. Mum is hoovering a lot more to ensure they didn’t bring something in from outside.

Overnight my face has returned to its normal, and ‘oh so handsome’ shape, and we are continuing with the tablets until my next visit. Mum says she things it will be kidney issues but that I am younger and fitter than Dusty was so we can deal with this earlier – a good thing.

  1. Wow, Harvey! We’re glad to hear your puffy face has returned to normal. We wonder what you are allergic to…and will it happen again. We hope those pills help control your thyroid, too.

  2. Whew, so good to hear he unpuffed so quickly. I worry about no vet visits since I’m taking care of someone elses cat but it’s been about four months and who knows the last time he saw a vet. He has a great cat tree set up and I’m sure he’s otherwise healthy and happy.

  3. We are sure glad the Mum took you to get check out and we are super happy you are doing okay now. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  4. I am glad you are no longer Mr Puffy Face. Is it possible that it was a brief reaction to the Vidalta. Those are the pills that Flynn had when he was first diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and as you know, he had a very severe reaction to them. I still blame the Convenia for that though because it made him so ill that he became intolerant to almost all medication.

  5. Harvey, I’m glad your face is back to normal.
My mom does kudos to your mom ! Giving you a medicine and you didn’t know it ? It’s Magic !
Purrs more for you to get better

  6. We, especially Mom, are thankful you are no longer Mr. Puffy face. ow scary this all sounds. I guess they have pulled out your being allergic to the new medicine. We so don’t want youth have either thyroid or kidney problems. keep us posted. We are sending purrs and POTP and Mom is adding you to her prayer list. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy and love and kisses from our mom
