Black Cat Photo Portrait

Today’s selfie is black cat from Neko Ngeru Cat Adoption Cafe. Her name is Pan and she is a lovely girl who likes other cats a lot, but can take some time to warm to humans she meets.

The photo I took is not what you would call a ‘standard’ portrait but I hope it encourages you to be braver with your light and shade.

There is so much personality in this photo and if you remember my tips on dodge and burn (or how to transform a sightly too dark or light photo), you will realise that I gently lightened some of the shaded areas but I did not try to lighten the deep shadows as this would not have worked.

Arthur In Memoriam

For regular Selfie friends, Arthur has been a welcome feature on the hop. His family reported on his escapades, made us laugh, and reported how he was slowing down over time. On March 8th Arthur crossed the Rainbow Bridge leaving us all behind him with sad hearts. He was a joy to see on the blog and will be greatly missed. Read him tribute post here with wonderful pictures.

Stop Press Blog News

This coming week I am aiming to get one post up every day with the theme ‘Taking Better Cat Pictures’ although as you all know the tips would apply to every single animal (but I have a lot of cat models to choose from so cats it is).

The posts will not be long but I hope they will encourage those who have an enforced stay at home to spend some of their time having fun taking photos.

Local folks can book a visit to Neko Ngeru Cat Adoption Cafe here.

  1. Pan is very photogenic! What deep golden pools of thoughtful eyes she has:)

What a good idea about taking lots of pet pictures during all these closures and loss of entertainment/eating venues.

But…not so for petcretary, as she works in a nursing home and she IS needed there…however the whole place is in a kind of lockdown…sigh…
