Abstract in Black and White, with a Tuxedo Cat

09/05/2020 by Marjorie Dawson 13 Comments

We are still getting amazing weather here in New Zealand so I wanted to explore a few corners on my photography skills wish list. I hope to explore more abstract pictures in May and June this year.

This short and sweet selfie is our friend Thomas.

Thomas paused in the shade as were taking a walk in the garden. As I turned I liked what I saw and quickly took a photograph. I loved the shadows and single darker spot so I experimented.

How could I make the photo look different?

Abstract of a cat in the sunshine.

I turned the photograph black and white in Affinity Photo and think the results are a lot of fun. It does almost look like an abstract.

There are strong diagonals with some more decorative uprights casting shadows, with a quiet spot in the shade for Tom who is having a quick wash and brush up. What do you think of Tom’s quiet portrait?
