This week’s Pet Parade is Dot’s Birthday portrait. She is 13 and I am celebrating by unveiling a special portrait taken earlier this year.
Dot’s tabby photograph was taken on our front deck with a background of garden greenery, in early summer. The weather was warm but slightly overcast which made the light nice and bright.
Most importantly, I used ‘sport‘ mode (also known as ‘burst’ mode on compacts and smartphones) and thanks to a series of rapid photos I managed to get this wonderful moment.
Usually summer light during the day can be strong and harsh, but thanks to the arrival of passing clouds, I managed to avoid the strong sunlight and shadows that would overexpose the colour of her lovely tabby fur.
Tabby Cat Flashback
I discovered an earlier birthday portrait flashback of Dot in 2014.
It may be blurry and out of focus but shows our sweet and grumpy girl indoors asking ‘what the heck are you doing with that flashy box?’.
Do you remember our photo of the sunshine glowing through Dot’s ear? That was
An Old Photo Tip
These pictures remind me of something important. I tell people this but it bears repeating a few times.
Not every photo you take will be perfect but sometimes it captures a precious moment or memory. I appeal to you all, never be too hard on your photographs. Set them aside, forget about them for days, weeks or months then when you go back, the memory is there, waiting for you.
We adopted Dot Kitten and Dash Kitten together, and Dash would have been the same age now.
So we ask you to celebrate our sweet Dot who is a shouter, a cuddler and cat who enjoys playing the grumpy ‘boss cat’ from time to time and, yes, we still miss Dash every day.
