Have you met Joe Grey Cat Detective? Even if you have, we want to introduce a new way to read your favourite cat detective, so listen up!

Our book review spotlights books we have and want to recommend to lot of other cat lovers, the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. She is the best selling author of 20+ Joe Grey books (and numerous stories), as well as being the winner of several coveted Cat Writers’ Association Muse Medallions for several of the Joe Grey books.

Joe Grey on Audible

My spotlight is the audio book versions of the best sellers, all found on Audible.com While we all love a good paperbook or an e-reader, these audiobooks are really are something special.  The entire series is available through Audible and each is about 8 to 9 hours long. They are a leisurely read that does not outstay its warm Joe Grey welcome.

Who is Joe Grey?

For those who haven’t met the characters, Joe and Dulcie live in Molena Point, hich is loosely based on Carmel, California. The town is vividly brought to life in the books, a key thing that we as readers, and listeners, enjoy. Open a Joe Grey book and step over a magical threshold into the sunny but occasionally dangerous world of Molena Point and its collection of characters. You fall in love with them, cheer them on and (once or twice) shake a fist at evil doers!

Joe Grey Cat Detective – Who Reads the Audio Books?

I recommend the reader, Susan Boyce, as a clear voiced narrator. Her subtle characterisations and inflections let us know who is talking but allow you to focus completely on the adventure and mystery that Joe Grey and his lady cat Dulcie are mixed up in! If you have never read Joe Grey mystery, check the bottom of this post as there is a freebie treat available!

This is a series that is consistently popular with cat readers, and we are big fans here at Dash Kitten. We enjoy re-listening to the stories too – so Mum, at least, is pleased we won’t wear out an old tape, or a cd thanks to Audible!

The prices range from approx $12.00 to $16.00. Basically, a book = one Audible member credit, and you can find out about Audible membership here, Otherwise you can check and see if the print and audio books are in your local library (for the truly budget conscious shopper!) We are not Audible associates or affiliates, just keen members.

I am not familiar with the Joe Grey series, but they sure do sound like wonderful reads. And…gifts! My BFF is an avid cat book collector, and I think these will be nice additions! Thank you for sharing this with us!

I love a good detective story and cats, but I have not heard of this series or author. I have been more focused on dog books the last few years. They sound great. I tend to enjoy physical books, but might be rather relaxing to have the stories read to me on Audible.

It sounds like an amazing book and only wish I had more time for reading but between teaching and online work by the time I am ready for bed lately I am seeing double LOL. I decided that when I retire is when I will catch up on all

Believe it or not I’ve actually Never listened to an audio version of a book! I’m a huge bookworm, I love to read, but I’ve not ventured into audio. I really should! This looks like a fun collection.

In the fall, I started picking up cat mystery books at book sales. The genre certainly interests me! I have yet to get hooked on to audio books. But only last year, I would have the dismissed the idea of podcasts and now I listen to so many of them that I’ve reviewed them. Who knows? There may be a cat mystery audio book in my future!
