Joining a Chat using Twitter on Tweetdeck as a newbie can be intimidating, especially if eyou have never tweeted much before and are trying to set up the chat and respond to greetings from welcoming friends.

Twitter on Tweetdeck

We will guide you easily through joining a Twitter chat using TweetDeck. We assume you already have a Twitter account (even if you have not used it).

Twitter on Tweetdeck

Log into TweetDeck using your Twitter account. This is a blank Tweetdeck page with no columns added! Your page will have Home and Mentions already,  but this is what Tweetdeck looks like empty, scary huh 😉

Do you see the + sign on the left of the picture above?  Click on that. The next screen gives you plenty of options. (Click image to enlarge).

How to Find a Specific Chat

Press + and click SEARCH. A Search window appears – type in the chat you are looking for e.g. #PetChat, #BlogPawschat #HandmadeHour and it will appear on the list.

Click the hashtag and a column with the chat will appear. Click Add Column and it will appear as a column in your Tweetdeck window. (NOTE : You can also click on an hashtag in someone else’s tweet and follow the same procedure).

You should now have three columns. One for tweets from all your friends on Twitter, one for mentions of you, and one so you can follow the Twitter Chat of your choice.

Any questions? Let us know.

Happy Twitter Chatting!

Thanks for posting this. I used to always use TweetGrid. I still can’t get used to TweetDeck. I have a million columns open and still can’t keep up. I’ll try it on tomorrow’s #BlogpawsChat.

That was great info for the beginners! We always like to add -RT to ours so that we don’t see the clutter of all the retweets.
