The Desolation of Smaug New Zealand Post Office

OK OK Smaug is not quite ready to eat his Hobbit yet!! But the treasures attached to the spectacular film are already streaming out into the shops as books, jewellery and most interesting of all stamps. Welcome to New Zealand where Monday comes first and we end with giveaway news!

The Desolation of Smaug New Zealand Post Office

The New Zealand Post Office may be being privatised by stealth (there is a rumour!) but it still manages to conjure up some precious treasures for those on a budget.  There is something for every Hobbit fan from a modest set of stamps, to a glorious collection of first day covers (see above), and a top of the range gold coin set. This postcard and stamp set is heading to a friend in the USA who is a big sci-fi and Hobbit fan!

I hope to feature a couple more treasures from Weta over the next few weeks. Oh and BTW remember 18th December for our New Year Giveaway!

Happy Monday

There sure are lots of humans with that hobbit habit over here in the U.S. Have a fun week dear friends.

I don’t think the Hobbitt is that big here. Henry Potter is probably bigger. Those stamps much be really cool though. Do you get time for an EZ sunday, Harvey.

Some of the most beautiful artwork we’ve seen here has been on US stamps. The future of the USPS is not bright…which is very sad for the art of the stamp.

ps – thought you might want to know that we still aren’t receiving emails alerting us of your new posts. If you decide to go with a different service, we wanted to tell you that Bonnie from The Cat Post Intelligencer helped us a lot with the technical side of setting it up and getting it running. And her pricing for tech help is VERY reasonable. xo
