Many of us already live by the statement to do no harm. We love our cats and protect them from sickness and predators. We help wildlife, and donate to rescues, we promote TNR. Frustratingly, not everyone thinks the way we do.

If you support City and his colleagues then be there at the protests, or share of Facebook and Twitter through the rally links or the twitter hashtags.

We are a #NoDeclaw blog

Thanks to City the Kitty I have learned on one particular form of harm that is still legal in America, even though it is illegal almost everywhere else – declawing. Is declawing a cat cruel? Yes. If you think it isn’t then, perhaps, you don’t need to read the rest of this post.

The Dash Kitten blog is behind the Do No Harm concept, and the rallies scheduled to take place on the 4th of May 2018. When 10 million cats get declawed in the USA cat lovers need to speak out. Why? Because there is no humane way to declaw a cat. If you can be there to protest do so. Otherwise see our Twitter hashtag help below.

  • We are rallying to remind these veterinary associations and declawing veterinarians to do the right thing and STOP blocking legislation that would ban one of the most harmful and mutilating procedures that vets perform and that goes against their veterinary oath.” – City the Kitty

Who is behind Do No Harm?

City the Kitty, a long time peaceful and respectful advocate for NoDeclaw is working with The Animals’ Battalion and highly reputable The Paw Project to make the rallies a success. There will also be Twitter storms using specific hashtags for those unable to get to the two venues and the ability to share on Facebook through the two Rally pages.

The Do No Harm Rallies will be taking place at these two venues:

  • Southern California Do No Harm Rally in front of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association at 5576 Corporate Ave, Cypress, CA [FB page]
  • Tarrytown, NY,  Do No Harm Rally at the NY Veterinary Conference [FB page]

There are plenty of posts on each of the pages you can share on Facebook. The pages are busy with people organising, appealing for lifts, and arranging meet ups. If you are not on Facebook and need more information let me know, and I will do my best to help put you in touch with the right people.

What You Need to Know

City the Kitty and his colleagues are working for a respectful and negotiated end to declawing not a screaming match. Their aim is to encourage us all to make our voices heard on May 4th and beyond. Unfortunately the City approach had been stonewalled by many veterinarians which is frustrating and sad. City and his Mom are the most sensible advocates these people could ever hope to meet.

Declawing always harms the long-term health and well-being of a cat.... Be their voice!Click To Tweet

Are there alternatives to declawing cats?

You bet there are! Unfortunately most vets will not tell you about those. City tells you about a lot of them on his blog so if you need ammunition to encourage people not to declaw this page is your first stop. We also came across Soft Paws who we met on Twitter – check them out for a fast way to act on immediate claw issues.

Meet the Vets Who Will Not Declaw

You will be encouraged that City has found many vets who will NOT declaw a cat.

They are all listed here

Yes Our Voices Matter. Remember the song ‘One Voice’ by Barry Manilow? The last verse goes like this….

Just One Voice
Singing in the darkness,
All it takes is One Voice,
Shout it out and let it ring.
Just One Voice,
It takes that One Voice,
And everyone will sing!

We are not in the US.A. but we will support the Do No Harm Rallies. City is and has always been a respectful negotiator on behalf of the feline community. Please, join us and support this endeavour to ensure fewer and fewer cats are declawed.

We are anti-declaw here too. NJ has proposed a band and I hope our new gov will see it through.

I have lost a few friends over this and thank you for this wonderful post. So glad to hear there are vets who will not perform this awful surgery. I just don’t see how the others can do it!!!!!! I hope this movement will spread widely.

It’s still happening in Canada too, unfortunately. I was shocked when I moved here and saw that declawing is a ‘thing’ to save the furniture, as I have never heard of it before. Nova Scotia is the only province to outlaw it, so hopefully, others will follow suit.

Declawing is barbaric and cruel. I don’t understand why a so-called civilized country like the U.S. allows such a thing.

It should’ve been banned YEARS ago … one of the most embarrassing things about this country.

Sister Dolly was declawed when she was turned loose to fend for her self. Thank goodness someone found her. Declawing is evil and we can tell there is a difference in the way she reacts with her front paws.
