You are here for a wild ride on one of New Zealand’s craziest local roads, its close to Wellington and a lot of fun if you like twists and turns! I’m Harvey Button and I want to welcome to my first ever Middle Earth Monday, giving you a view of Clean and Green New Zealand! OK let’s get started with some local territory.
This map gives you a quick bird’s eye view of the area just north of Wellington. The yellow road on the left is State Highway 1, which gets pretty busy. The little A flag is the Hill Road – it twists and turns like a fairground ride and when Edgar came to visit us here in NZ he got the full treatment ending up here at the Paekakariki Hill Road Look out for a superb view up the coast.
If you look to the right, you can see the road slopes down, although it’s pretty hard to try and take a picture while driving a crazy bumper car switchback so Edgar posed in the Lookout at the top!
You can also see the State Highway on the left of the picture as it travels through Paekakariki itself before travelling north for a long way up the coast. Oh, how to you pronounce it? Paekakariki you mean? Try this Pay-Kaka-Ree-Kee and see how you get on! Oh, and to see a local map of the Hill Road you can follow try here.
See you next time folks!
