Today is an update day for me on the health front

Hello everyone, Dusty here to welcome you to Thankful Thursday which we are sharing with Brian and his wonderful fur family. The health news is not brilliant, but there are things we can take action on, so here goes :-

I have late stage renal failure so I am not well, but I am getting antibiotics for my runny digestion and Mum is going to learn how to hydrate me. I am still perky, thin as a stick, but lively and engaged with Mum and Dad, so I am not gone yet! Mum’s not a needle person but for me she is prepared to walk the extra mile or five thousand……

The blood panel has me down as poorly kidneys and also liver issues (which we knew were hovering there somewhere) so we are talking gentle healing and comfort care. This is fine by me, I am doing OK, I wander about, I sleep a lot and the youngsters don’t pester me overmuch; although Miranda is fond of my Jimbo’s raw * grins*.

I am happier , and more thankful, than I have ever been

With a cosy heated bed and more food than I can eat what’s not to love about home eh?

I never thought I would end up a blogging cat writing about automatic cat feeders, and encouraging everyone to discuss how renal food needs improvement! This is all quite something for an oldster to take in 🙂

I will be contributing to the blog as long as I am feline fit so I am not gone yet, and your cheering comments on Twitter and Facebook mean more than we can say. Thank you.

Yours in friendship

Dusty, we are sorry the news wasn’t better, but we are glad you’re feeling fit. We hope that continues (we will purr and pray!), and we know that Mum and Dad will do everything they can to keep you comfortable, happy and feline fit. Hugs!

Aaaaaaaaaaw Dusty, we’re sorry ’bout da VET mews, but we know you’re in great hands. And we’re sendin’ extra purrayers. Mommy says those RS diets are fashioned after what works fur doggies and not actually kitties. Of course at the end of da day, mommy says ya’ give kitty anythin’ they’ll eatt. But, raw or close to it is purrobably da bestest option. Big hugs fur all.

    Luv ya’

Oh, Dusty, I’m sorry it isn’t better news, but I know that your mum will do all that she can to help you! I am not a needle person either, but I gave injections to my cockatiel for quite a while. I wouldn’t have thought it possible for me to do it until I had to. I’m sure your vet gave your mom some tips for hydrating, but my mom’s cat enjoyed a mixture of chicken broth and chicken when she was suffering from severe renal failure.

Dusty, my kidneys aren’t the greatest either, though I don’t need fluids yet. There’s a great website where your mom can read more about kidney disease and learn about things that can help you stay comfortable and live a bit longer. It’s The mom refers to it all the time. ~Wally

Dusty, I am praying for you. I know your Mum can do the fluids, I did them last year for Spooky and I get nervous with needles. XO

Hey Mum, we agree with Summer, giving fluids is no big deal and Dad isn’t a needle person either. Dusty, we are sending purrs and prayers to you pal, just keep chillaxing and posting on the blog.

Buried renal food packet, Dusty. My typist said it wrong. I will bite her.

Dusty, you remind mom of her Robin years ago who was in the same situation. Mom did everything possible to keep Robin going and as comfortable as possible.

The renal foods I see, have not improved judging from your comment. Robin had sample packs at first. She was alone while mom worked and when she came home the second day, Robin had buried the food packet in the litter box. Truth. She would never eat it. Not after her first try. Mom called the Vet office and told them about the buried litter packet. The laughter was loud as the receptionist told others around her as well.

Lots of love from me and Mom, Dusty.

Dusty, I am sending you lots of purrs! My human wants your human to know that she learned how to give fluids to Sparkle, and it wasn’t that big of a deal once she got it down (the vet who instructed her was very patient). She just did it… and she is not a needle person either!
