Today we visit England and Erin the Cat Princess, a blog for the keen reader, and lover of feline humour and wit. Intelligent, international pet blogging doesn’t come much better than our friend Erin so grab your drink of choice and settle down for a good read.
STOP PRESS :- Erin has been nominated for a BlogPaws Nose to Nose Award. Well done Erin and dad Mark.
Welcome Erin, it’s nice to vist your corner of the worldwide web.
Hi Miranda, thank you so much for calling in to see us at the Palace, on this the latest leg of your Worldwide pet blogging feature.
Where is the Palace I hear you ask? Well, my peep always says “Head to England, turn right at the White Cliffs of Dover, head North, and it’s the first left after the newspaper shop. Personally I think that’s the long way, and I’d go second right at the creamery”. purrs
Joking aside, the peeps and I live in the Palace, which nestles in a small village near the town of Melton, in the County of Leicestershire, which is in the middle of England, United Kingdom. This is quite busy county, with a good mix of both industry and farming, oh, and is great mousing territory. Also, and of more interest to all your cheese loving readers, it is the home of the delightful and world renown blue veined Stilton Cheese, which goes down very well with mice and a fine nip port.
The best thing about running my blog?
Well, day to day life at the Palace really is as you see it on the page, and never too many dull moments, I can tell you. In fact sometimes I’ve had to give up a nap just to have a dull moment to have a nap in! So whilst life isn’t all cream and nip, *sighs* I do really enjoy the time I get to mouse over… er… sorry that is muse over, the events of the two weeks leading up to each blog post. But of course, like skiing, it’s the Apres blog that is the real fun, that time after the blog is published when you can chill out, kick back with some cheese, and let all your pals across the world see what’s been happening. purrs
What kind of readership enjoys Erin the Cat Princess?
Now, when I started this blog just over a year ago, I had a just a handful of readers in New Zealand, Canada, and the USA, readers who whilst clearly cat lovers, were and are also writers and bloggers. With support and guidance from those few new pals, and I tip my hat to them now, including the late great Nerissa the cat, my blog is now being read from Brazil to Russia, Canada to New Zealand, and has a very large readership in the Nation State of Brunei Darussalam, which it transpires has a large cat loving community. Strangely enough though, we have only a few readers in the UK. I really do need to write to the Times about that. Anyways, as to who reads my post? Well I don’t actually seek to find out as it would, for me at least, sort of spoil the fun of it all, as I feel first and foremost we are cat lovers.
What are the joys and challenges of being a worldwide blogger?
Hmm, well I must say that the challenges when I started seemed gigantic. I’d never dreamed that I would be read locally, let alone that the Palace had gone global. Heck I didn’t even have a passport. I started to fret about what time to post, too early or late and it might be missed as my new International pals, who would be either going to bed or getting up. Then there was what to write about, would life at my Palace be too boring, and clearly UK matters, such as the price of cream, would have little concern to a cat in Canada. My biggest worry of all was my spelling, or more accurately the spellchecker, which insisted on contradicting everything I typed. Mouses!
But once I’d got to grips with things they ceased to be problems and became pleasures, bar the spell checker of course, which we just ignore! I now enjoy staying up late to catch my new friends posts, in real time, but I also know they wont be lost or mine missed as we can all seek them out. As to the price of cream, it doesn’t actually matter where you are or what you post about, so long as you have fun and tell your tail… er… tale.
For me though, the biggest joy of being an International blogger is that you actually cease to be International and become part of one big family. You get to meet great new pals from across the globe and share fun, important information, and views. And what better way to spend a few hours than with those you love. purrs
