Getting your blog noticed isn’t always easy. It took us a while to get used to sharing our blog posts on social media (SM). Every blog needs to share its posts because we want to be read; whether to serve our sponsors better, or to spread the word on an urgent rescue or event. We at Dash Kitten think impact is more important than plain numbers hence this blog post’s theme
Don’t Just Share Once
Sometimes a ‘share’ can be a powerful thing – it can spotlight a cause, a cat, or a fundraising book or Kickstarter or GoFund Me. So, how to you maximise your ‘reach’ as a blogger, or share for a friend?
Twitter Sharing Tips
- Keep it brief, allow room for RT’ers to add their own text.
- Use Bitly for your link. Did you know you can customise a bitly link to make it more relevant?
- Try to make your phrase interesting or catchy.
- Limit yourself to three hashtags # per tweet. Instagram is hashtag heaven, not Twitter.
- Schedule tweets using HootSuite. It is not hard to learn and helps get attention across different time zones.
Getting A Blog Noticed – Tips and Ticks
- Ensure the top of your post contains the vital information you want to share. People may only read the start of a post – get your ‘call to action’ in fast!
- For each new post, send out news consistently across your social media networks. These may include Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Tumblr Instagram, Snapchat and LinkedIn.
- No. 2 also applies to a post you may share for a colleague – share a post you value across your SM networks.
- For posts considered especially time sensitive, contact your social media followers with the most influence. Useful to maximise reach for rescue posts.
- Ask friends to Share a post. Remember, you are committing to supporting the sharer in return – a good thing as….
- Reciprocal support is important. It shows you are engaged with your colleagues and friends and this generates goodwill.
- Add a post to Stumbleupon. This can be hit and miss but, if it works, it can send your views off the charts. Do you remember our cruelty free feathers post in 2014? It received 100’s of views thanks to a SU share.
- Encourage readers to join your email list so they don’t miss a post. Don’t be pushy – it can take time but many regular readers realise that an email notice means they don’t have to come and check!
- A picture can make a post Super Shareable!
