Mystery by Eugenie West

We are BIG readers in our house, both real and e-books are constantly in use for reference and for entertainment, so we wanted to include a Blog Paws Gift Guide with some of our favourites.

We know you will have your own favourites to recommend so let us know, and remember, a new eReader like the superb Kobo Arc or a Kindle is a treat for many readers.

  • Eugenie West writes a mean murder mystery, with reporter Gracie Barufaldi using her sharp wits to uncover the truth. First book – Baby’s Breath Kindle also available in paperback.
  • Sal Everybody’s Pal we make no excuse for including this delightful, happy and touching book. It tells a great rescue story for children and adults – showing optimism and hope. The drawings are finely done. Hardback/ebook from the site.

  • The World According to Bob Excellent review here. The book expands upon the first Street Cat Bob book and shows how the love of a cat turned around a life that was heading downhill fast. New Zealand, UK, USA  ebook/real book.
  • For Fantasy readers, we are enjoying The Moontide Quartet by David Hair. Mage’s Blood the first of the series sets the scene, introduces a fascinating range of characters into a world with strong resonances of our own and enough strangeness for interest.  Russell Meek’s Khalada Stone series is good too.
  • The Science of Interstellar. Mind bending as the movie was, it is based on facts, educated guesswork and speculation. Scientist Kip Thorne explains. iBook, Kindle or the highly recommended Real Book.

May we wish you happy hunting in your search for a good book, and hope that we helped a little along the way!

I am SUCH a book nerd, and some of my favorites feature dogs and cats. Might I recommend Love Saves the Day by Gwen Cooper? Don’t let the cheesy cover art scare you – it’s really a great book! If you end up reading it, let me know what you think 🙂 Great picks here!

Great list – I’m going out to look for the Science of Interstellar. I enjoyed the movie and had heard it was written with actual scientific principles in the true tradition of science fiction. Nice to meet a fellow sic-fi fan! Amy at Terra Toby
