Get it in writing? What the heck are we talking about – we blog on computers right er…. write?

OK let me explain; the Team at Dash Kitten often finds information we want to keep and read later – like our Business Plan from Blog Paws, or social media tips we value.  So we want to ask, are we alone in cutting and pasting the information into a document to print off and read when we are not ‘working’ on our blog, or on social media?

Dash Kitten Stack of Colourful Paper
You may not do so, but we think it’s a good idea. So, here’s five good reasons for keeping ‘study’ information as printed documents :

*** You can review at your leisure, on the train or bus, waiting for an appointment. You keep all your sheets together in a cute folder and you don’t need a phone signal or batteries. Stationery freaks will love choosing their folder and paper for this!

*** You can scribble thoughts in the margin when you feel like it, not if the computer progam lets you. It’s a tactile, physical thing, using a different part of your brain.

*** You can doodle in the margin! Doodling is good for the soul – go doodle. If it’s good enough for Google it’s good enough for YOU.

*** Reading offline gives you a different perspective – you are not sat at your computer, you are part of the real world and different thoughts can inspire you. Remember J.K. Rowling writing Harry Potter in an Edinburgh cafe?

*** You are in control, you are not tied a desk, you can get up, move around, even screw up the paper in frustration and begin again. Imagine doing THAT to your tablet, or smartphone!

So, don’t stress if you want to keep some information – print it off. No printer at home? No problem! Grab an online storage account with Copy or Dropbox and visit an internet cafe (both links go to free storage) to print stuff off.

OK, let’s get some work done on the Blog Business Plan * grabs pencil *

The mom prints a lot of stuff off. She says she can read it better on paper than online.

We love paper. The head peep says she thinks better with a pen in her hand, so she often works on paper.

I have a notebook. Of course, due to the lack of opposeable thumbs, I have to get the peep to use it, for me. One day, perhaps there will be an app for that. Until then, I must manage with the peep.

We use Evernote to keep that kind of information available ; we can annotate it, highlight some sentences, and we don’t need to be online. Our notes are available on the computer, on the phone, on the iPad, on.. everywhere and every time. Mum print some of them if she has to work on them (like a business plan for example hi hi). Do you already know Evernote ? Mum says it’s her mobile brain ! Purrs

No. 6 is that you can have fun shredding them if and when you are finished with them!
