Middle Earth has conjured up some wonderful things of a magical nature. However, it has also brought about more concrete benefits for the citizens of middle earth, such as the Roxy Cinema, Miramar, Wellington.
It began as the Capitol Theatre in 1928 built to screen silent films. Converted to ‘talkies’ it survived until 1964 when it became a shopping centre before being reopened as a cinema of superb quality in April 2011. It’s Art Deco style has been recreated and the interior also shows a selection of superb Weta sculptures and pictures.
One of the glories of the cinema is the newly created ceiling in the upstairs lounge – created by Greg Broadmore creative from Weta. Roxy Link
