With the opening of The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug this past week-end, it got me thinking about what was happening a year ago…
On 28th November 2012 The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey opened here in Wellington, it brought such a vibe to the city and the crowds on the warm and sunny day were huge! I was able to get an autograph of Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) as well as Dean O’Gorman – the excitement was tremendous!
Before the stars arrived, people came along giving out Gandalf hats (missed that one 🙁 as well as large sheets with the Hobbit Plane, and postcards, for autographs. Apart from some silly person talking interminably to each star rather than letting them walk the red carpet it was huge fun. Elijah Wood needs to come down the right hand side of the carpet next time (just saying…)
The crowds were immense but thankfully I got there in time to bag a decent viewpoint. I found out several things – Elijah Wood is tiny, so is Martin Freeman, Richard Taylor rocks – he’s so generous and Tall, and Cate Blanchett doesn’t sign autographs (well I didn’t see her do one all the way down 🙂 Andy Serkis rushed down the red carpet at the start but later ran back up at great speed high-fiving everyone stood at the barriers – thrilling everyone.
Mum saw the film over the week-end and greatly enjoyed The Desolation of Smaug, even if the action sequences did outstay their welcome at times.. 😉
