We are thrilled to introduce Cait Sith in an exclusive interview. Cait supervises humans at the Neko-Ngeru Cat Adoption Cafe situated a few minutes from the centre of Wellington, New Zealand and opening mid-November 2017.

Cait took time out from her busy schedule, in the run up to the opening of the cafe, to speak to us at Dash Kitten……

Greetings Humans

Cait Sith here from Neko Ngeru Cat Adoption Café. I appreciate this chance to blog with you. Thanks to my late mentor, Mi Two, I know pretty well how to do this. You can see some of our writing, and our special shop for New Zealand folk on the website but, I am still quite a novice compared to some of the others featured on Dash Kitten’s site.

Where in the world will Neko-Ngeru be? Who are you?

Wellington’s first Cat Adoption Café, Neko Ngeru, will open mid-November at 291 Jackson St in Petone, Lower Hutt. I know technically it’s not Wellington, but it is so close it feels like it is. This will be a place where cats and humans can get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

We cats will be working hard to look chilled out as we play and cuddle with the humans to help them de stress. Some of us will take on permanent positions of authority in the homes of the humans we choose for our very own in a process called adoption.

Cait Sith, what has been your favourite part of getting the Adoption Cat Cafe launched?

My favourite part was sharing the excitement of the crowdfunding with so many people from the Wellington region, New Zealand and around the world.

My people, Ken and Richelle, lived in a lot of different places, but they chose Wellington for a reason. It’s great!

What kind of people have you discovered supported your Fundraiser for the cafe?

All kinds of people supported us. Some people donated a lot but everyone gave what they could with their heart. We have enjoyed sending their rewards and learning more about them. I am going to keep in touch through my fortnightly meowsletter because there will always be exciting things to share like special deals and events once we are up and running.

What are the joys and challenges you have found so far in creating the Cat Adoption Cafe and it’s environment?

There are more joys than I can put in one blog, but I have to mention how helpful people have been. Starting a business is a new thing for my humans. They were international school teachers before, so they have had to learn everything about business and hospitality quickly. They still have a long way to go but they are going to risk it anyway.

Any cat or building challenges for you, Cait Sith, and the kitty staff?

There are a few challenges worth mentioning. Building in New Zealand cost more than they expected so many of their dreamy plans for the café have had to be postponed for the next one when they can have more money to work with if all goes well.

Looking for a comfortable home through Neko-Ngeru

On a personal note. I have cat relationship challenges. My new house mates, Momo and Mischief, are not nice and won’t play with me. They hiss and hit me every time I try. I hope they will come around before they move to the café so that we can play when I come to visit. I also hope that the next cats who are coming to live with us before they work in the café will be more easy going with me. At least Tonraq plays with me when he is home and even grouchy Mi-Ke is more tolerant of my jokes now. I just want to have fun, what can I say?

Cait Sith 's nemesis

Where can people find out more about the cafe and keep up with Neko-Ngeru news?

People who want to know more about us can look at the Neko Ngeru website and sign up for the meowsletter through our Facebook page.

Soon we will have the online booking set up so you will be able to plan your time to come visit us. The phone line will be set up from the 30th of October so you can also call to make a booking. The reason we suggest booking ahead is we only take 20 people at a time since we don’t want the cat play area to get too full. You might have to wait a while to get your turn to play with us if you do not schedule your time.

Thank you Cait Sith for your exciting insights into the Cat Adoption Cafe. We know it is going to be a success and find many cats homes!

I’m loving the cat cafe idea. And these kitties are so lucky to have a community of dedicated people helping them and teaching them how to enjoy life. New Zealand would be an amazing place to visit.

Oooh, we hope this is highly successful with lots of visitors and adoptions. Our mom really wants to visit a cat cafe. We don’t have one here. She never thought about crowd-funding to open one. What a terrific idea. Keep us posted on how this does after it opens. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

Wonderful interview. It’s exciting there will be a cat cafe near you in the future. I don’t think we have one in my city, but I understand there is a cat cafe in Charleston, which is about 2 hours from me.

I love the idea of the kind of place where cats and humans can get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. True personalities don’t always shine through at shelters due to stress.

Cat cafes are fun to visit! How cool you’re getting one near you. I went last year and Mr. N was very upset that I didn’t take him.

I do love cat café’s … I’m allergic so it allows me to go in – get a little kitty love – and leave before it gets out of control bad. We have 2 in my area and they seem to do very well. one has Siberian cats the other features rescues.
