This wonderfully expansive park is just over half an hour from Wellington, nestled in the Akatarawa Valley, close to Upper Hutt. It is paradise for those who love the outdoors. Here visitors hike, camp and take in the almost magical quality of the area.
Our Visit to Rivendell – Around the Arch
The Arch is surrounded by trees and bush, giving it a welcoming sylvan atmosphere. You can see this in Dusty’s movie below.
As ‘Imladris’, Rivendell was a haven for the elven folk, and it was here in ‘Rivendell’ that a key scene from the first movie was shot. Here Frodo volunteers to take The One Ring to Mount Doom to be destroyed, and the Fellowship of humans, elves and dwarven folk is formed to accompany him.
Here you can see Mum near the arch, she gives it a sense of scale. You can see it’s not a full elf size one.
We hope you enjoyed our return visit to Rivendell. It is a magical place, worth a trip when you come to see us in New Zealand.
