Welcome to the Dusty Update instalment of the Thankful Thursday weekly blog post with Brian and his fur family. As you can see from this picture, taken yesterday. He is eating, and, recently chowed his way calmly through a 5.5 earthquake, totally ignoring it in favour of his chicken!

Why We are Thankful – Dusty Update

Anyone who has read our report on Dusty’s emergency vet visit knows we are thankful he is doing OK, eating, and on the mend. We are also thankful that we made the call to get Dusty healed, in spite of it being a holiday period.

Place for Cats foster network has told Mum that many people ignore health issues in cats for far too long, leaving any treatment far too late, and then dump their cats at a shelter – rather than pay a small amount for a simple treatment that would make the cat well. There is a word for such selfish arrogance – ‘evil.

Pet Lovers – We Reflect on Our Dusty Update

We know people who, in total contrast, do their best to ensure their pet stays well – and struggle to pay vet bills, but carry on, perhaps with help from a GoFundMe appeal, or an auction, and are rewarded with a well pet, and many more years of love. Their cat may live like a king or queen on MeowMix, or premium raw, but they will be loved and cared for – always.

Look after your pet.

Look after your family.

Be thankful you have someone to love, human, or pet, on Thankful Thursday.

We’re glad Dusty’s feeling better! And you are so right … being owned by a cat is a responsibility and a privilege … not to be taken for granted or shoved off on someone else when it’s no longer convenient.

I am glad Dusty is doing so much better.
Two years ago last September and then three months later on Boxing Day, Flynn was at death’s door, but two years later and a few more scares along the way he is still with us and we are very grateful to our wonderful vet.

I love this post. I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m always thankful to find out about caring owners who do what they can–even if it means asking for help from others–in order to keep their little family members well. It’s so hard, and treatments can be so terribly expensive, but it is so worth it. And there are so many people out there who want to help. Asking is hard, but sometimes, it’s the absolute right thing to do.

So glad to hear Dusty is doing better. Mom Paula is keeping her fingers crossed that we stay well for a while because of the tightness of the green papers right now.

Although my human rarely got along with her family, the one thing they all agreed on was that if you took on the responsibility of having a pet, the pet was a family member and got all the respect, love, and medical attention any human family member would receive. So my human totally does not get humans who don’t care properly for their cats.
